'In The Fade' by Fatih Akin awarded at Golden Globes

'In The Fade' wins Best Foreign Language Film at the 2018 Golden Globes

'In The Fade' by Fatih Akin has just been awarded 'Best Motion Picture - Foreign Language' at the Golden Globes!

The film has also been selected as the country’s submission to the Foreign Language Oscar race this year.

We licensed Courtney Barnett's 'Anonymous Club' for the movie.

First love was the use of Courtney's 'Canned Tomatoes' in Fatih Akin's Tschick - now it's her 'Anonymous Club' he picked for Aus dem Nichts (In The Fade).

Congratulations to Courtney Barnett, original publisher Third Side Music and thanks to Bombero International and Pia Hoffmann Music Supervising!

out soon: 'Universe' by KUF

The band's 2nd album will be released January 26th on Stefan Goldmann's label macro Recordings.

Since Thomas A. Edison first recorded the human voice in 1877, the recording arts have changed music forever. Musicians have explored the endless possibilities of bouncing their input onto layers of tape, off the walls of an echo chamber or the circuitry of electronic helpers - technology that modulates, spatializes, shifts, divides or multiplies the work of human hands and mouths.

An era of sampling offered a cubistic analysis of the recorded past and DJs took dancers onto intricately fractured time travels. This is the historic foundation that KUF keep probing. Just like the sampler and the DJ before them, they found new ways to re-allocate where machine and man stand when making music together. Most importantly, they turn the resulting friction into sparkling bursts of energy.

‘Universe’ digs deeper into the android vocal chords. The album offers sweeping melodies, different beats and persistent bass. Immerse in the intimacy of the voices, probably recorded in trains, backstage areas and at late night private parties during Berlin Lichtenberg warehouse rehearsals.

Burnt Friedman released his 'Anthology (1980-2017)'

The 17-track set charts Friedman's artistic development over nearly four decades

during which time the Berlin-based artist has forged a rhythmically adventurous sound that weaves in elements of world music, dub, jazz and techno. (A press release also mentions the influence of his longtime collaborator, legendary Can drummer Jaki Liebezeit, who died in January.)

It includes previously vinyl-only material he released through labels like Marionette, Latency and Dekmantel, along with four unreleased tunes, and it's set to come out on his own label Nonplace Records.

new release: 'Menetekel' by hackdepicciotto

'Menetekel' is the 2nd album by Einstürzende Neubauten's Alexander Hacke and The Space Cowboys' Danielle de Picciotto!

Both are legends of their own: de Picciotto moved from NY to Berlin in 1987, to become the lead singer of Space Cowboys, co-initiator of the Love Parade and a collaborator of the Ocean Club with Gudrun Gut (Malaria). Hacke is an original member and the bass player of Einstürzende Neubauten. The artist couple has creatively interacted with countless international projects for almost two decades now besides regularly releasing their own compositions.

Menetekel is darker than their last masterpiece Perseverantia. The title is another word for 'the writing on the wall' and the artist couple is projecting our collective despair of what is happening worldwide momentarily into a monumental symphony of sound. The symbolic and spiritual questions asked supply an unusual depth to the album, giving it a universal and very poignant touch of the human quest.

'Menetekel' is out via Potomak since December 15th!

New release by Atom™ & Lisokot

'Walzerzyklus' was put out December 8th on the Raster precursor Raster-Noton!

The current release on Byetone's Raster label is 'Walzerzyklus', a collaborative EP from Atom™ and Russian singer Lisokot.

'Walzerzyklus' completes a series of Atom™ records that includes two albums the adventurous German artist put out on the Raster precursor Raster-Noton: 2009's 'Liedgut' and 2011's 'Winterreise'.

He worked with Lisokot to craft seven tracks that were told to employ "the 3/4 time of a classic waltz". (The EP's title is a term that's German for 'waltz cycle').

Out Now: 'Fistful Of Leaves' by Thrifty MHz

Max Turner's latest EP has been released December 1st on his very own AUM Records!

Marking the end of 2 decades since his debut on Felix Kubin's Gagarin Records, the co-founder of the infamous Puppetmastaz presents his first releases after 5 years of musical reshaping in India.

Training in Carnatic and Hindustani music, he returns with a spice box of fragrant silences and spirit drones, blended with rhythmical nuggets of microtonal aspirations.

Please dive into the world of Max Turner, Thrifty MHz and Nature Boy and watch out for his upcoming contributions to Berlin's Staatsakt Label!

Wolfgang Tillmans releases 35-minute exhibition soundwork

'Hamburg Süd / Nee IYaow eow eow' has been released Novemebr 17th alongside booklet of photographs

"You’re probably very familiar with the photographic work of German artist Wolfgang Tillmans. Earlier this year, the Tate Modern held a vast exhibition of the photographer’s work and in the year 2000, he was the first photographer and first non-British artist to receive the Turner Prize. You may not, however, be as familiar with his music or sound design displayed in a recently released record by the artist following his exhibition, There was 30 years between 1943 and 1973, 30 years from 1973 was the year 2003, at The Kunstverein in Hamburg.

The exhibition consisted of a 35-minute sound installation which took the exhibition’s inner-city context as its starting point. Operating in conjunction with several photographic and video works, the installation transformed the gallery space into a “single cinematic whole”.

Now that the exhibition is over, The Kunstverein has released the 35-minute sound work Hamburg Süd / Nee IYaow eow eow as a CD via Tillman's own label Fragile Records, accompanied by a booklet featuring exhibition views and short snippets of text all designed by Wolfgang.
