new signing: Jay Haze

Philadelphia-born, Berlin and Lima-based artist / producer / activist recently signed with Freibank

Jay Haze records under several monikers - Fuckpony (Get Physical, BPitch Control), Subversion (Souljazz, Futuredub), Bearback (Tuningspork Records - together with Samim Winiger), Jay vs. Ricardo (with the Chilean artist Ricardo Villalobos) and others. He also collaborated with the renowned French composer Yann Tiersen (of Amélie soundtrack fame).

Aside from DJing, recording and running labels, Jay has been active in non-corporate fundraising and explored new approaches with the Textone internet label in the early 2000s.

His new album 'Rain Drops And Birds' is scheduled for release on Contexterrior. It is outstanding, among the best work he has put out in a long and distinguished career. We are proud and honoured to act as publishers for him.

new signing: Jessica Baran-Surel

Jessica Baran-Surel breathes new life into a long-forgotten music of the Middle Ages, the Celts and the early Dutch and Italians (Ars Nova, Trecento).

Jesscica breathes new life into a long-forgotten music. Her playing summons up the vastness of the mystical world: the forests, the meadows, the cities and the sea. It is impossible to resist fascination with this graceful, elfish vision that fervently takes hold of the room.

Music has been a part of Jessica's life since she was in the cradle. Her first music lessons were with her mother and were followed by a typical music education: Instrumental studies at the Hochschule für Musik in Weimar and at the Hochschule für Künste in Bremen, a scholarship tu study with Gabriel Garido and Francis Biggi at the Conservatory in Genf, and numerous concerts with various artists and ensembles (Carlos Núnez, Lucidarium among others).

In addition to her traditional music education, she is also largely influenced by popular and folk music. As a result of her Breton roots, deeply seated in the celtic tradition, her active work as a flautist, singer and keyboard player in various bands and projects, and her long-standing work with music producer Thomas "toma" Barth, she has increasingly blurred the boundaries between different styles and genres and between classical and popular music. She has developed an effortlessness in her handling of musical language, which she shapes into something unique.

new signing: Wolfgang Tillmans

Freibank just signed fine art photographer and composer Wolfgang Tillmans!

Tillmans, born 1968, is best known as a fine art photographer. In 2000 he became the first photographer to win the Turner Prize, and his work hangs in the Metropolitan Museum Of Art, the Tate, MoMA and the Centre Pompidou, among others. His subject matter, themes and associations have long interwoven with club culture - he's had three sets of work installed in Panorama Bar and also provided the artwork for last year's Ostgut Ton Zehn compilation.

He's also a dedicated music fan. Not only have musicians long been his subjects for works shown in exhibitions, he also still regularly shoots artist portraits for music publications such as German Rolling Stone and Spex. His Berlin gallery Between Bridges also has exhibitions around records, featuring playback on a high-end soundsystem. If you live in Berlin, you'll see him regularly at clubs and can occasionally catch him DJing.

'Device Control' is Tillmans' second release as a musician. His first album '2016 / 1986' came out on Fragile less than three months ago. The EP's title track appeared on Frank Ocean's 'Endless' visual album - Ocean started 'Endless' with a sample from 'Device Control' and ended it by including the entire track.

Wolfgang Tillmans' era-defining career will be the subject of a major retrospective at London's Tate Modern in February 2017.

Premiere: 'Orutu Run' by Lena Willikens

Listen to Lena Willikens' fiery reinterpretation of TAL's first release from Ogoya Nengo and The Dodo Women’s Group!

Lena Willikens has undeniably been one of 2016's most prolific artists. Known for her atypical musical taste and her impressive capacity of picking lesser-known yet brilliant records, the Cologne-based artist doesn't disappoint when it comes to the remix. Following her striking remix for Delicacies and for Huntley’s + Palmers earlier this year, Lena will inaugurate 2017 with a fiery reinterpretation of TAL’s first release from Ogoya Nengo and The Dodo Women's Group.

Ogoya Nengo and The Dodo Women’s Group 'On Mande Versions' is released via TAL on 20th January 2017 and premiered on Inverted Audio.

The Berlin-based trio The Trouble Notes is Bennet Cerven violin, Florian Eisenschmidt guitar, and Oliver Maguire percussion. Their music doesn’t need words to convey stories or foster connections. Mobile Provider Ortel just licensed 'Catalonia Calling' than can actually be heard in a TVC for the Allnet Flat L campaign.
