new signing: Giant Rooks
Freibank has just signed worldwide publishing agreement with german art-pop band Giant Rooks.
Hailing from Hamm in North West Germany, Giant Rooks are art-pop five-piece who’ve been turning heads since their inception.
It was this first EP in 2015 release that saw the groundwork laid for the band to win the popNRW Prize for newcomers in 2016, as well as two consecutive summers of festivals, which saw the band play over 80 festival shows including Reeperbahn, Eurosonic and The Great Escape. In addition to this, the band have also supported Kraftklub and The Temper Trap, not to mention a 29-date, nine country tour with Mighty Oaks throughout November and December 2017.
If that initial EP was what set the wheels of the hype-train in motion, it was the release of its follow-up, the New Estate EP (Haldern Pop Records 2017), which has cemented the reputation of Giant Rooks in Germany, Austria, Luxembourg and Switzerland.
2018 will see the band embark on their second major tour, with the 23 dates taking in shows in Germany, The Netherlands and UK.
Their debut album is scheduled for 2018.

release: new EP by André Winter
'Lucide' is out since Jannuary 26th on Oliver Huntemann's Senso Sounds!
André Winter is one of the key artists on Oliver Huntemann's label, releasing material for Senso Sounds since 2014. Fans of Huntemann's ominous, bass-heavy sound may be surprised by 'Lucide'. On the title track, the Hamburg producer lays down a pulsating, clubby groove, but also mysterious, evocative vocals in French, bee-sting bleeps and dubbed out filters. It's less upfront than some of Senso's releases, but is still deadly effective. For those who are still seeking the label's clubby sound, there is 'Voyuerist' to conned with. Centred around loose drums and huge, whooshing filters, it houses the kind of brutal, functional bass that Huntemann himself is known for.

'Touch Me Not' won at this year's Berlinale!
Romanian director Adina Pintilie’s feature debut Touch Me Not, a highly personal study of sexual intimacy, was already the most controversial inclusion in the Berlinale's main competition before its shock win of the Golden Bear for Best Film last weekend. We licensed the tracks '5:48 Uhr Tier', 'Die Befindlichkeit des Landes' and 'Wir sind gekommen die Geschenke abzuholen' by Einstürzende Neubauten for the movie.

'In The Fade' by Fatih Akin awarded at Golden Globes
'In The Fade' wins Best Foreign Language Film at the 2018 Golden Globes
'In The Fade' by Fatih Akin has just been awarded 'Best Motion Picture - Foreign Language' at the Golden Globes!
The film has also been selected as the country’s submission to the Foreign Language Oscar race this year.
We licensed Courtney Barnett's 'Anonymous Club' for the movie.
First love was the use of Courtney's 'Canned Tomatoes' in Fatih Akin's Tschick - now it's her 'Anonymous Club' he picked for Aus dem Nichts (In The Fade).
Congratulations to Courtney Barnett, original publisher Third Side Music and thanks to Bombero International and Pia Hoffmann Music Supervising!

out soon: 'Universe' by KUF
The band's 2nd album will be released January 26th on Stefan Goldmann's label macro Recordings.
Since Thomas A. Edison first recorded the human voice in 1877, the recording arts have changed music forever. Musicians have explored the endless possibilities of bouncing their input onto layers of tape, off the walls of an echo chamber or the circuitry of electronic helpers - technology that modulates, spatializes, shifts, divides or multiplies the work of human hands and mouths.
An era of sampling offered a cubistic analysis of the recorded past and DJs took dancers onto intricately fractured time travels. This is the historic foundation that KUF keep probing. Just like the sampler and the DJ before them, they found new ways to re-allocate where machine and man stand when making music together. Most importantly, they turn the resulting friction into sparkling bursts of energy.
‘Universe’ digs deeper into the android vocal chords. The album offers sweeping melodies, different beats and persistent bass. Immerse in the intimacy of the voices, probably recorded in trains, backstage areas and at late night private parties during Berlin Lichtenberg warehouse rehearsals.

Burnt Friedman released his 'Anthology (1980-2017)'
The 17-track set charts Friedman's artistic development over nearly four decades
during which time the Berlin-based artist has forged a rhythmically adventurous sound that weaves in elements of world music, dub, jazz and techno. (A press release also mentions the influence of his longtime collaborator, legendary Can drummer Jaki Liebezeit, who died in January.)
It includes previously vinyl-only material he released through labels like Marionette, Latency and Dekmantel, along with four unreleased tunes, and it's set to come out on his own label Nonplace Records.
