Unrestricted surveillance and data exploitation by global digital corporations are topics that are discussed daily in the media today. Wau Holland, the founding soul of the Chaos Computer Club, and his allies foresaw these dangers back in the 80s. At the time of the Cold War and the punk subculture, the free spirits were inspired by Californian technology visionaries. They professed the hacker ethic and demanded a human right to worldwide unhindered communication as a prerequisite for democracy and self-determination. This energetic documentary shows how the big questions of our present day permeated Wau Holland's life and work. A haunting portrait of zeitgeist pioneers whose vision is as impressive as it is enriching.
