This is Alexander Hacke’s first album since leaving Einstürzende Neubauten. It takes its title - and draws its inspiration - from the home he and Danielle de Picciotto recently established on the outskirts of Berlin, marking a milestone after 14 years of nomadic living. Named after the German word for clearing, 'Lichtung' has become their personal haven and a place for reflection amid a period of global upheaval.

Superstition was the label run from 1993 to 2003 by Einstürzende Neubauten veteran (and Freibank founder) Mark Chung and DJ Tobias Lampe. Thanks to countless releases by Oliver Lieb, it became Hamburg’s flagship label for the “Sound of Frankfurt” and, with Humate, Mijk Van Dijk, Thomas Schumacher, and Energy 52, a lineup of other strong acts that often pursued a trance-like, melody-driven sound. The meticulous label work of music professionals Chung and Lampe was also evident in countless remixes, though this compilation focuses on the techno genre. Oliver Lieb struts in as L.S.G., the man of a thousand pseudonyms, and brings his 'Netherworld' into the so-called present. Mijk van Dijk and Marcos López let Technasia whip up their indestructible 'Schöneberg.' John Tejada and Johnnes Heil deliver a Detroit-style sound, while Sterac and Joel Mull offer European techno purism. And then there’s the highlight for the generation coming to terms with the past: Ricardo Villalobos - it has to be said - deconstructs 'Café Del Mar.' Ricardo, of all people. He strips the next Energy 52 Ibiza vacation of its last vestiges of pathos and shreds it into a sea of minimal sounds.
